Description

This dual boiler machine has been a beloved choice in the home espresso community for years! The manufacturer is well known for its attention to detail down to the smallest parts, and this latest generation is absolutely no exception.

Some cosmetic changes have greatly improved the form and function of the machine. Angled feet provide visual interest while slightly lowering the machine’s overall height.

The cup rail is a sturdy stainless steel cup rail featuring beautiful logo detailing, consistent with the rest of the line. Unlike the previous generation — where the cup rail was removable — this rail is much more substantial.

None of the previously beloved core features were removed. Major improvements to usability and the temperature controller are the most significant changes to this incredibly popular dual boiler home espresso machine.

Dual Boiler with Built-In PID & Shot Timer

Internally, this generation is nearly identical to the previous model — a dual boiler with a built-in PID for wonderfully consistent internal boiler temperatures. Unlike other machines, the PID isn’t in the same place as the shot timer.

The shot timer is displayed in two places simultaneously. One is a discreet timer just to the left of the commercial-style group head, consistent with the rest of the line. The other — and the more convenient of the two — is on the new touchscreen controller, easy to read on the high-contrast display to the left of the machine.

Impressive Recovery Time & Steam Power

A frequently asked question when discussing home espresso machines is how quickly the machine recovers after making a couple of drinks. This machine has the recipe to be one of the most rapidly recovering in its class.

Two technical specs contribute to that speedy recovery:

  • Heating element power — the steam boiler’s heating element is up to 33% more powerful than other dual boilers at the same price point.
  • Boiler size — the boilers collectively are larger than other machines in its class by up to 11%.

With more powerful heating elements and larger boilers, you’ll find it difficult to deplete this machine — it’ll be asking you to invite more friends over!

Touch Screen Controller

A significant upgrade in this generation is the new PID controller. Previously, it was something you’d connect once, program, and immediately tuck away — not the most well-designed feature. That’s changed entirely.

The new controller is an incredibly user-friendly, well-designed touchscreen. From the screen you can:

  • Change steam boiler temperature
  • Change brew boiler temperature
  • Set the 7-day programmable timer, with easy day-to-day copy
  • Toggle ECO mode on/off (disabled if the 7-day timer is enabled)
  • Display the shot timer
  • Turn the steam boiler off when not in use
  • Turn the machine on or off
  • View low water alerts, with a flashing status light when the reservoir is removed or low
  • Switch between water sources

The touchscreen controller sits on the left side of the machine and, like previous models, can be removed without affecting the machine’s functions.

Plumbable

This machine is flexible with its water source — usable with a reservoir, in pour-over mode, or plumbed directly to a water line. Switching between sources is done right on the touchscreen controller.

Included in the box is a braided water line that connects directly to the bottom of the machine, plus silicone tubing to drain the drip tray (optional — the drip tray is generously sized if you’d rather not drill an extra hole in your counter).

Auto On — Seven Day Programmable Timer

The seven-day programmable timer is one of the easiest to set up, thanks to the touchscreen controller. You can schedule the machine to turn on and off twice a day, with a different schedule for each day of the week — or copy settings across days if your schedule is consistent.

When the auto-on timer is active, ECO mode is disabled. ECO mode normally turns the steam boiler off after 30 minutes to conserve energy; lifting the brew lever reactivates it, reheating to your set temperature.

No-Burn Wands

Stainless steel hot water and steam wands feature Teflon tubing inside, replacing the previously used silicone (effective 2020).
